Project Overview
As part of a college project (2021), we were asked to design & create a speculative design project. Our brief allowed us to speculate as far into the future as we wished, & in any area chosen. For my speculative design project, we decided to focus on challenging the idea of money & the wealth system. We believe there should be a more forward thinking way of measuring a country’s wealth – that is not just centred around money & imports. From all our research, our project, sonas, became a new way of replacing GDP.
Sonas
In 2035, the Irish Government will invest in a new AI technology called sonas. Sonas will replace GDP, & will act as a new wealth system. The system will be based & measured off of the population’s happiness & wellbeing. Sonas is installed into each household around the country, & collects data by scanning citizen’s data anonymously through the eye using advanced iridology. This will provide an overall accurate understanding of a person’s health & happiness.
DATA COLLECTION DESIGN
We took inspiration from the eye’s iris & colours to represent data collection & reconfiguration. As the data moves & shapes, it takes in the calculated happiness of the individual.
CONTEXTUALISATION
We envisioned the data to hologram out & become immersive. You can interact with the sonas device, as well as it being portable & placed on multiple surfaces.
